Welcome to the first episode of the Talking Stick Podcast. Many thanks to Sage Tyrtle of the Quirky Nomads podcast for inspiration for the subject and recording of the intro and outro which for some reason I managed to procrastinate on for quite some time.
This episodes contributors include:
Todd Tyrtle of Quirky Outtakes
Maureen Blaseckie of the Baba’s Beach podcast
Tim Ralphs of the Room Behind the Bookcase podcast
Brenda Dayne of Cast-on
Music was “Kiss Me One More Time” by Larry Murante used with permission. Theme music was by Josh Woodward

I thoroughly enjoyed the progression of this topic through the four participants – though, goddamn it, Brenda, you made me SOB.
Kate – good idea on the glasses. I shudder at the thought of that old Twilight Zone ep with Burgess Meredith.
Tim: Did you somehow manage to channel Douglas Adams? Well done!
It goes to show that it never matters how intelligent one’s argument is, folks just want to be entertained.
Yep, Zabet, that’s me. The comic reflief amongst the furrowed brows and intellectual debate.
Well done, Todd!
All the pieces were interesting and thought provoking — and Tim’s was absolutely brilliant!
Good thing I was listening at home, I was laughing out loud during his bit…
Looking forward to more episodes!
Ditto all Rob’s comments. It was a great idea Todd, and it came off perfectly, as you had hoped – and expected, I’m sure. I look forward to many more with equally diverse voices and approaches.
I enjoyed all the contributions and eagerly await upcoming episodes. Still, I can’t help thinking that you’ve all missed the point. Where have you been lately? Genocide, warmongering for profit, climatic disaster and nuclear brinkmanship while the media celebrates vacuous celebrity. Wondering if and how the end of the world will come could be a case of horses and stable doors. Keep doing it though the results are delightful.
Hey Graeme (or anyone else for that matter) – feel free to record something and start it circulating. Just because the episode’s done doesn’t mean the topic is. Love to hear others’ thoughts.
I have to say I really, really enjoyed this episode and the different takes on the end of the world (and Tim, I’m very glad that someone mentioned the zombiepocalypse because that is, actually, one of my biggest fears. Yes, I’m kind of ridiculous that way.)
Some people think I was joking in this. But earlier this week Britain was rocked by the largest earthquake we’ve had for 25 years.
And I slept through it.

Hi Todd,
I went through a survivalist phase in my late twenties when I read a whole bunch of Heinlein books in a row, and I’m convinced that humanity will survive, adapt, and find ways to deal with whatever comes — ok, I’m an optimist, for sure. Personally, I have been stockpiling eyeglasses, because in a crisis, whether or not I can see will mean the difference between life and death…without those, yes, I’ll be one of the first to die…with them, I can at least read my survivalist books.
Honestly, it’s only now that I have children that I actually have a reason to want to survive, to help them survive, too.
